Why learn from me?

Hi, I’m Sheilagh.

I’m not a teacher — I’m an Occupational Therapist, which means my lessons are different. They’re practical and down-to-earth — no fluff here.

With my help, you’ll be able to:

  • Write more clearly so teachers, parents, and friends can read your work easily.

  • Reduce exam stress because you know your writing will be understood.

  • Match the effort you put in with the marks you get, so the hard work really pays off.

  • Avoid embarrassing moments of not being able to read your own work.

  • Feel confident showing your work instead of hiding it.

You’ll know it’s working the moment you look down and think:
“Omg, did I write that?”

Ready to surprise yourself? Join the club today.

Best wishes,

Sheilagh

Frequently Asked Questions by Students

(If you are a parent or a school, you can look at our FAQs for you on this page.)

About the Get Set Write club:

No. You will be encouraged to write in your usual handwriting but suggestions will be made on how to make it easier to read. If I think you might benefit from joining up your letters or printing them I will suggest this. This is a handwriting practice club where you are shown techniques, advice is given but it is up to you if you follow it.

Every month the boxes are posted out between the 21st and 25th of the month. Firstly, I post the international club members their boxes as they need more time for the post to reach them. Next, I post the UK boxes on the 25th. This means everyone is ready to start on the 1st of the month.

That is ok, I am very realistic, we all have other lives. What I do know is that the more you practice, the easier handwriting becomes. I created a workbook around interesting historical events.

Some students can do different days to others. For example a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. However others can do Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Hence why you have 365 days of writing activities.

In fact, the writing activities should take about 10 minutes or less to do. They are not going to take up your whole evening.

Totally agree with you.

The Get Set Write club, formally known as the handwriting practice club, was created for you in mind. Club members have helped shape it. They chose the labels on the box. They chose the front cover of the books and they even came up with the name. You will be treated with respect, your opinions will be heard and you’ll never be asked  to do something that a 5 year old would be happy to do.

About the group Zoom lessons:

I totally understand. And it is for this reason that all the recorded group feedback is anonymous. The work is emailed into me but I hide everyone’s names. If you are uncertain on how it works, check out the video at the top of this page. I did not mention the persons name once!

No. It would be nice to see your face but if you wish not to have your camera on that is fine. I do ask that you have your name displayed. They are not scary lessons, we always start off with a fun quiz each time.

For handwriting there are some rules that I teach. This makes changes easy to happen.

For the club, come with an open mind. Many students find handwriting tricky and we can all learn from each other.

For the Zoom lessons, camera can be on or off.  If on, you can change your screen background once. Make sure your real name is shown. Mute yourself when not talking. Ask any handwriting question you want to.

We are here to have FUN. (It is not like a school lesson – I promise you)
