There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to improving handwriting for under-11s. That’s why you need an occupational therapist who’ll work with your child to understand their needs.
Both Andree and I will guide your child to making lasting improvements. We’ll boost their confidence. Play a lot of writing games that will make them forget that they’re having handwriting lessons. We see children from the UK and across the world.
How do we get started?
1. Book and pay
Choose your occupational therapist. Then, book a time slot. Complete the payment and keep a lookout for our welcome email. This has the link to book more lessons.
2. Do the pre-lesson work before the 1st lesson
Ask your child to do our pre-first lesson worksheets. Record a video of your child’s writing. Focus on their pencil grip and sitting posture. Book all future lessons. This helps us prepare for their lesson.
3. Follow these tips for a fab lesson
Ensure your child has a quiet space with a table to write on. They’ll need a pen or pencil and lined paper. Charge your device fully. Connect to a stable internet connection. Position the device so your child can easily write and show their work to the camera.
4. Be around and receive feedback
In our experience, kids this age want their parents nearby. We like it too for safeguarding reasons.
At the end of the 45-minute lesson, you will get feedback and progress updates from your child’s OT. Also, we will talk to you about any homework if it is to be set.
Let me tell you about Theo
Theo*, a Year 5 Minecraft fan, struggled with handwriting, believing it “sucks”.
At school, he was put in a handwriting group. He didn’t get his pen licence when others did. Despite school interventions, his writing didn’t improve. His confidence and schoolwork were being affected. His mum, concerned he might have dysgraphia, sought help. She wanted to avoid agreeing he should type.
After signing up for six lessons, the results were immediate. “The difference was finding ways to teach handwriting that made sense to him,” his mum noted. By lesson four, she observed, “I can see so much difference in his writing, but the biggest change is in his confidence.”

Frequently asked questions for handwriting lessons
We use game-based activities in our handwriting lessons. They include quizzes and weird but true facts. These will help your child take an interest in their writing. Many get so absorbed in their writing that they are surprised when we say the lesson has ended. We avoid repetitive worksheets at every opportunity.
Yes! The pre-lesson worksheets give us a baseline of your child’s writing. By seeing your child online, the camera view gets us very close to them. If we were in person and got that close, we would be invading their personal space. This closeness helps us make faster improvements. We are skilled at offering lessons online. We can fix all writing problems, including any pen grip concerns.
Many parents see improvements in the first lesson. The key to lasting improvement is practice. Regular lessons allow consistency to develop. This usually happens around lessons 3-4.
Every child is different and some need more practice than others. We will guide you after each lesson. We’ll tell you how well we think your child’s writing is developing.
Absolutely. Our handwriting lessons will give your child the skills and confidence to write more in class. Parents often tell us their child has great ideas but writes less. After working with us, this is no longer a concern.
We understand your concerns. An option could be to speak first by booking a discovery call. Here we can talk about your child’s needs.
Some parents are uncertain if their child will engage in online handwriting lessons. This is usually about their child’s attention span. We make the lessons fun and engaging. If you are uncertain, a taster lesson might be a good idea.
All our lessons are tailored to your child’s needs and interests. We don’t offer prescriptive lessons, meaning we do not say lesson 1 covers A, B, C and lesson 6 covers X, Y and Z.
Not at all. We ask that they have a pen or pencil, lined paper and a desk space to write on. Any device needs to be fully charged. That is it.
Our OTs provide clear, easy-to-follow directions. Any homework will be clearly explained. Our homework topics are often fun related. We prefer quality over quantity. We’ll be asking them to apply the writing techniques taught in the lesson. No specialist handwriting knowledge is required.
Yes, we see students up to the age of 16 years. This age group has a different page. Here, we address their specific handwriting needs. Teaching handwriting for Key Stage 3 and GCSEs requires a different approach.
