Wishing your child can sharpen their handwriting skills?

Everyone's handwriting is unique and it should be personal. But there are rules that has to be followed. This newsroom writing activity helps your child review and improve their work.

We'll help your child go from an Independent Writer who needs more practice on their handwriting to an Improved Writer

1. Independent Writer

Who wants/needs to improve their writing but prefers not to be told what to do.

2. Focused Writer

Who realises that there are rules to handwriting that if followed will improve their writing.

3. 'Checklist User' Writer

Who learns how to self review their work to make progress.

4. Improved Writer

Who has improved in all aspects of writing.

Goodbye, silly mistakes. Hello opportunity.

Handwriting is not easy to do! Some writers can be flustered by well-meaning comments. They may feel confused and overwhelmed. A checklist is the best way to avoid a scattered approach to handwriting.ย

The Newsroom combines a love of guessing with writing exercises. It asks if things are real or fake. As your child copies the ‘news,’ they’ll check their work. Giving themselves a “Hey, I’ve got this” feeling towards their writing. They’ll be on top of things knowing what areas to work on without you needing to say a word.ย

Get your child’s press pass and join ‘The Newsroom”.

How do we get started?

1. Click 'Buy Now' button and pay

Receive instant access to the workbook and how-to videos. Download and print the workbook (48 pages).

You can complete the worksheets in any order you choose. Your child should copy the title in all capital letters. Then, copy the paragraph into separate sentences. Capitalizing them correctly.

Once written, they need to decide if the news is real or fake news. The answers are at the back of the workbook with URLs to read further.

Next, they should review their work. This is very important for progress to happen.

Your child should use the tracking sheet to track the score out of 8. They may find certain areas are more tricky than others. They can watch the how-to videos to help them improve. Or, they may find particular letters or words are harder to write.

The aim is that they learn how to review and improve. Helping them to avoid making the same mistakes again.ย

If you have any concerns or wish to show us your child’s work you have access to our parents only Q&A call. Here you can ask me, Sheilagh, our founder and OT, any handwriting question.

Frequently asked questions

The Newsroom is designed for independent use by children aged 9 and above. It provides 6 weeks of daily practice sheets. They can do them on their own, with no need for parent support. Although you might be curious whether the news was real or fake!

Yes! The Newsroom is set up for practicing short, focused content. Each worksheet should take 10-15 minutes to complete. This makes it easy to fit into busy schedules. Although there are 42 worksheets, a child could do a few at a time. It is not essential they do one every day for 6 weeks. A few parents asked for daily writing activities for a 6-week school term. That’s why it was set up this way.ย

Each worksheet has a built-in checklist. It encourages kids to review and improve their work. This self-checking process helps them spot mistakes. It also builds a habit of reviewing their writing.

Yes, your child will be copying upper and lower case letters. They will be writing a headline and a paragraph of text. This method of writing boosts handwriting, vocabulary and knowledge. It makes learning more fun.

It adds fun by asking kids to guess if a copied news article is real or fake. This game-like aspect makes practice less of a chore. The key element is the checklist. Without this, your child would be copying but not learning how to improve.ย

We would hope so. The workbook is for independent use. Children learn to improve by using the checklist, not by being told what to change. This avoids conflicts with writers who want to show their independence.ย
