Frequently asked questions

Focus on the positives. Celebrate small improvements. The worksheets are broken down into days of the week. You can do a sentence a day or a few in one go. If you wish, you can write it out first and then your child can copy it. Always praise effort and progress, not just perfect writing.

Animal names and their group names always spark interest. If your child struggles to write a certain letter, show them a sample. Then, ask if it is tall, sitting, or falling. You can repeat the worksheets for extra practice. There are also the how-to videos to watch.

Rather than talking about ascender and descender letters. Children find it easier to think of letters as tall, sitting and falling. Tall letters are: b, d, h, k, l, t. Sitting letters are: a, c, e, i, m, n, o, r, s, u, v, w, x, z. The falling letters are: f, g, j, p, q, y.

The worksheets will explain all they need to know. Each week’s writing addresses the three letter sizes. The last week looks at word space gaps. There are 10 pages of lined paper to help your child quickly master their letter sizes.

The best tools are special lined papers. It helps your child see letter sizes. This workbook has 10 types of lined writing paper.

Also, the terminology used matters. Some people talk of sky, grass and ground. Or roof, house and basement. There are visual aids that match these terms. Our experience shows that talking of letters being tall, sitting, and falling is best. It is also the easiest for children to understand.

Aim for short, regular practice rather than long, infrequent ones. Start with 5 minutes daily for younger children. Gradually increasing to 10 minutes. This is all dependent on their attention span. Consistency is key. These worksheets can be repeated at any time. Children love animals. They don’t get bored when redoing them.

There is no formal tracking needed. You will be able to see the differences. One of the best ways to see change is to write the date on a completed worksheet. Then, review it by the date with a before and now review.
